Located on top of scenic Calumet Bluff, the Lewis & Clark Visitor Center overlooks the Missouri River and Lewis and Clark Lake. Operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the National Park Service, this center offers early history of the Missouri River and Lewis and Clark, a theater, wildlife displays and a view of Gavins Point Dam. Mid May – Labor Day 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily; Labor Day – mid October 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily; and mid October – mid May 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday – Friday.

This finely preserved Civil War building is the home of Yankton Area Arts Association and provides a charming setting for monthly art exhibits, receptions and meetings. There is a fully-equipped kitchen and large classroom in the basement. Historically, the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) built the hall in 1887 as the Phil Kearney Post No. 7, a meeting place for Union veterans and their auxiliary. The National Field Archery Association (NFAA) headquarters is located in Yankton. The NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Complex includes permanent ranges for Olympic archery games, field archery and 3-D simulated hunting. The indoor shooting range is open year round from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Saturday and 12 – 7 p.m. on Sunday. Four outdoor ranges are available when weather permits. Local, National and International competitions are held each year. Group Tours may tour the facility for free. Take a step back in time as you enter the Dakota Territorial Museum. The museum holds a large collection of rare memorabilia of early life in the Dakota Territory. Some of the exhibits include the musical instruments of Felix Vinatieri, the band leader for General George Custer’s 7th Calvary band, a Max Copper Vintage Boat Motor and fishing collection, Great Northern railroad caboose, 1870s log house and one-room country school. Summer hours include May 1 through Sept. 30, Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday – Sunday from Noon – 4 p.m. Winter hours are Oct. 1 through April 30, daily from Noon – 4 p.m. and by appointment year-round. Gavins Point Dam, located on the Missouri River, was completed in 1957 as part of the Pick-Sloan Plan. The dam and powerplant are operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Tour the powerplant and learn how it operates. See the generators in action! Open Memorial Day through Labor Day, Friday – Sunday and holidays tours begin at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tours are available to groups off season by appointment. No purses, bags, cameras, cell phones, food or drink allowed in the powerplant. IDs are required for those 17 and older.
